Moog Acquires Berkeley Process Control, Inc.
East Aurora, N.Y. (October 13, 2008) – Moog Inc. (NYSE: MOG.A and MOG.B) has acquired
Berkeley Process Control, Inc. for $14 million in order to add a line-up of high-performance
motion-control products for improving manufacturing processes across an array of industrial
applications. Berkeley’s motion control software and hardware not only automate the precision
handling of semiconductor wafers but also enhance the speed, quality and safety of welding for
complex technical applications.
"Berkeley Process Control, Inc. has a tradition of providing innovative motion control solutions for
applications that include welding nuclear fuel canisters, welding for oil & gas construction,
producing semiconductors and medical equipment," said Dave Fijas, group vice president and
general manager of Moog Industrial Group, Americas. "Moog’s focus is delivering highperformance
motion control solutions the world over. Berkeley is a perfect addition because we
believe its portfolio of products opens doors to new markets for high-performance motion control
systems."
Berkeley’s flagship product – the BX-300™ Motion & Machine Controller – is a pre-integrated
hardware and software platform for motion control. The flexible architecture of the BX-300™
enables manufacturers to design sophisticated solutions for complex motion control challenges.
The flexibility of this product also accelerates the time it takes machine builders to bring new
designs to market, which is a competitive advantage.
"The BX-series of products are optimized for precise motion-control applications with a small
footprint," said Paul Sagues, founder, chairman and chief technology officer of Berkeley Process
Control, Inc. "Berkeley has a heritage of taking a ‘systems approach’ to developing software and
hardware that solves difficult customer problems; that sort of approach is aligned with Moog’s
philosophy of providing its customers with high-performance solutions versus simply selling
products or components.
"Because of this acquisition, our customers and partners now have our expertise as well as the
power of Moog’s worldwide engineering experience designing innovative electro-mechanical
systems for motion control," added Sagues.
Founded in 1981, privately held Richmond, California-based Berkeley Process Control, Inc. holds
several patents, among them its Autocalibration® technology for improving the productivity and
precision of equipment that processes semiconductor wafers.
