Optical Fiber Machines

Berkeley Process Control produces products used in the design and manufacturing of optical fiber. The manufacturing of optical fiber requires a high degree of precision and sophisticated control. Manufacturers have traditionally used costly techniques resulting in low production yields and inconsistent quality.

Berkeley offers integrated solutions for automated optical fiber manufacturing systems that help reduce manufacturing times, increase yields and enhance the quality of the fiber. These products address a wide spectrum of applications in the fiber optic manufacturing process, from the pre-draw, draw and post-draw process. Our products address a wide range of needs, ranging from Preform Lathe and Draw Tower controls, to complete Fiber Rewind and Prooftest machines, and the world's fastest Transferring Take-up Machine.

Berkeley has addressed the needs of the optical fiber manufacturing industry since 1988. Our motion control technology and machine design expertise have helped our customers to significantly increase the productivity, quality and capacity of the manufacturing process.
RM50 Fiber Rewind Machine w/ Prooftest
The RM50 represents the latest in optical fiber rewinding technology. This prooftesting rewind machine will run at speeds up to 50 m/sec, while prooftesting at 200 kpsi. Incorporating Berkeley's latest motion-and-machine controls, this rewinder is capable of zero tension winding and boasts automatic-edge correction capabilities.

FST40 Transferring Take-up Machine
The FST40 is the world's fastest transferring take-up machine, capable of runtime spool-to-spool fiber transfers at 45 m/sec. This transferring take-up incorporates an assisted load/unload mechanism to allow users to handle larger spools of fiber. Combined with on-the-fly transferring of fiber, this allows for longer uninterrupted pre-form draws.
